Dan Ward helps clients with their legal needs related to patents, trademarks, technology transactions, and other elements of intellectual property. He brings the perspective of in-house counsel to his work, having previously served as in-house patent counsel to a leading global coatings manufacturer.

Dan has advised on corporate innovation strategy, including initiatives to generate new intellectual property. He has managed global patent portfolios and prepared and prosecuted patent applications for chemical, biochemical, mechanical, and digital systems inventions. He has litigated patent disputes and led the negotiation of settlements, as well.

In addition, Dan has drafted, negotiated, and managed license, joint venture, and joint development agreements as part of technology transactions. Dan is also involved with mergers and acquisitions, where he has conducted due diligence of intellectual property portfolios and advised on acquisition strategy.

Dan is a member of Parker Poe’s Pro Bono Committee, which is dedicated to involving Parker Poe lawyers in meaningful, charitable legal work.

Prior to joining Parker Poe, Dan has served as in-house counsel to The Sherwin-Williams Company, a global coatings manufacturer, and as an associate at a large general practice law firm. He received his law degree and master's degree in finance from Vanderbilt University. He received his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Miami University of Ohio.

Outside of work, Dan enjoys long-distance running and watching soccer.
