Robert H. Jordan, partner at Parker Poe, practices in the firm's Charleston office and focuses on complex commercial and business litigation. He has extensive experience in matters involving commercial contracts, business torts, products liability drug and device litigation, real estate and commercial landlord-tenant disputes, banking, securities and financial services, consumer class actions, corporate and partnership law, asset and business purchases, piracy, health law issues, and insurance coverage claims. Robert also provides services related to premises liability, wrongful death, and trucking litigation. He is also a leader within Parker Poe, serving as the firm's Charleston Office Development Partner. 

He has represented a variety of clients that include international drug manufacturers, financial and lending institutions, brokers and wealth advisors, hospitals and health care entities, liability insurance companies, national and local real estate developers, commercial landlords and tenants, airlines, automobile and industrial equipment manufacturers, national telecom companies, physician practices, contractors, transportation companies, software and networking companies, investors, and local and regional businesses.

Robert handles litigation matters from inception through appeal. He has appeared in federal and state courts across South Carolina, including Circuit Court, appellate courts, Federal Bankruptcy Court, private arbitrations, and alternative dispute forums. He has tried cases involving state contract, tort, and statutory laws, as well as federal statutes and regulations, in state and federal court in both jury and non-jury settings. He has resolved suits through dismissals and pretrial settlements.

Along with other Parker Poe colleagues, he currently serves as national coordinating counsel for two defendant chemical manufacturing companies in multidistrict litigation (MDL) involving thousands of individual plaintiffs and water service providers and a national putative class action pending in Ohio, among other related claims. The MDL action is pending in federal district court in Charleston, South Carolina, and involves aqueous film forming foam PFAS claims under state law in jurisdictions throughout the United States.

Representative Experience

  • Currently represents international drug manufacturer in statewide opioid litigation.
  • Represented an insurer in federal district court in a $100 million insurance coverage dispute. The district court dismissed the claims against our client and the district court's decision was affirmed on appeal by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
  • Represented national air carrier in consumer class action.
  • Represented three hospitals in consumer class action involving hospital pricing and billing practices.
  • Represented international drug manufacturer in over-the-counter (OTC) products case. 
  • Represented insurers in a tax litigation dispute involving municipal taxes levied against the insurers based on their collection of federal flood premiums under the National Flood Insurance Program. The tax was upheld by the federal district court but struck down on appeal by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in a case of first impression. Mun. Assn. of South Carolina v. USAA Gen. Indemnity Co., 709 F.3d 276 (4th Cir. 2013).
  • Defended wealth advisor in multimillion-dollar FINRA litigation. 
  • Defended national bank and individual wealth advisors in broker-dealer litigation in federal court.
  • Represented aggrieved investor in fraudulent commodities trading litigation.
  • Represented network television company in a breach of contract claim over highly successful syndicated television show.
  • Represented international bank in consumer class action dealing with mortgage and lending practices.
  • Represented national furniture manufacturer and Fortune 500 company in wrongful death suits brought by the estates of nine deceased fire fighters.
  • Represented national developer in suit against contractors, architects, and engineers related to construction of $54 million condominium development at Wild Dunes Resort. 
  • Represented the U.S. Trustee as special counsel and successfully pursued adversary claims in a multimillion-dollar time share development bankruptcy. In Re French Quarter Group, LLC, 489 B.R. 400 (2013). 
  • Represented gun manufacturer in insurance coverage dispute arising under commercial general liability policy. Ellett Brothers, Inc. v. United States Fidelity & Guar. Co., (275 F.3d 384, 389 (4th Cir.2001) cert. denied, 537 U.S. 818, 123 S.Ct. 94, 154 L.Ed.2d 24 (2002).
