Washington, DC – Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP is pleased to announce Marci Norton has joined the firm’s Washington, DC office and will provide federal regulatory and compliance advice to a range of companies across the life sciences, health care, and food and beverage industries. She joins Parker Poe from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, where she worked in the Office of the Chief Counsel for nearly 30 years.
In that role, Marci interpreted and applied the agency's laws, including the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FDCA) and its implementing regulations, and the Public Health Service Act’s (PHSA) provisions governing biological products, mammography quality standards, communicable disease control, and the ClinicalTrials.gov database requirements. She also worked with the Department of Justice (DOJ), representing the FDA in judicial enforcement actions in fast-changing areas of the law relating to food (including dietary supplements and infant formula), drugs, medical devices, biological products, tobacco products, and cosmetics.
"I'm excited to join Parker Poe and collaborate with such a talented team," Marci said. "I look forward to helping our clients navigate the ever-evolving, complex regulatory schemes governing FDA-regulated products."
"We are thrilled to welcome Marci to Parker Poe," said Raleigh partner Amanda Hayes, who leads the firm’s Health Care Practice Group. "With decades of experience at the FDA, Marci brings deep insight into the agency’s regulatory and enforcement priorities, which will enhance our ability to provide our clients with comprehensive guidance."
Marci earned her law degree from the University of Virginia and went on to clerk for the Maryland Court of Special Appeals (now known as the Appellate Court of Maryland). She began her career as a computer engineer with NASA after earning a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
