Pro Bono
Parker Poe has a rich tradition of providing legal services pro bono publico – for the public good. Our attorneys provide thousands of hours of free representation every year. We take our duty seriously to help meet the legal needs of people with limited means, as well as the nonprofits who serve our communities.
Our pro bono work has included helping a neglected child secure a Supreme Court victory, winning a young Nigerian man asylum in the U.S., protecting the intellectual property rights of a nonprofit focused on ending hunger, assisting a low-income entrepreneur in setting up a business, representing Ukrainians and Afghans in asylum applications, and helping to create a program to address financial instability for individuals returning from incarceration. Our attorneys have helped dozens of low-income clients expunge criminal records in recent years. In addition, we serve as pro bono counsel for a wide range of charitable organizations.
Many Parker Poe attorneys focus their pro bono work on the representation of abused and neglected children through North Carolina’s Guardian ad Litem program. Over the past few years, Parker Poe attorneys have handled more Guardian ad Litem appellate cases than attorneys at any other firm in North Carolina, according to state data.
Bar associations have recognized our firm and individual attorneys for “outstanding achievements” in pro bono work. We maintain an active Pro Bono Committee that spearheads and coordinates initiatives across all eight of the firm's offices. We also partner with clients on pro bono opportunities, working closely with them to identify needs in our communities.
