Steve Britt is an experienced corporate and technology lawyer who focuses on cybersecurity and data privacy laws and regulations. He counsels clients on the full range of data protection laws. He holds two IAPP certifications - Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E) and Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) – which are the international gold standards for data privacy, covering all elements of the design, implementation, and management of data privacy programs for global organizations.
Steve has represented clients on data protection issues involving the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Trade Commission, HIPAA, and other federal agencies and laws. He has advised on compliance with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). He has also advised on state data protection issues involving the California Consumer Privacy Act, the New York Department of Financial Services, and many other state agencies and laws. He is a frequent speaker and writer on cybersecurity and data privacy.
In addition, Steve has extensive experience helping clients navigate technology transactions. He has represented a wide range of hardware and software clients involved in managed services, software licensing, software as a service (SaaS), cloud agreements, data hosting, and software development. He has represented international clients from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. His deep understanding of technology licensing underpins his cybersecurity and data privacy practice.
Steve's experience with complex agreements extends to government contracting as well, including advising clients on licensing technology to the U.S. government. Earlier in his career, he served in several federal government agencies in senior executive and legal capacities, in the process gaining a unique understanding of the culture and operation of federal agencies, as well as the legislative and regulatory processes.
