Overview

Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP was founded in Charlotte in 1884. Today our Charlotte office remains our largest, and we advise a wide range of business, nonprofit, and local government clients on the full range of their legal needs here.

Charlotte is frequently ranked as one of the premier locations in the Southeast to live and conduct business. Charlotte is one of the fastest growing cities in the country. It is home to roughly 875,000 residents, and it's part of a broader metropolitan area with a population of 2.6 million, according to census data.

Charlotte has one of the nation's largest banking communities. In addition, more than half of all Fortune 500 companies have a presence here, and nine are headquartered in the Charlotte area. The region's favorable business environment continues to attract foreign corporations seeking a presence in the United States. More than 1,000 foreign-owned firms operate in the region, according to the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance.

Centrally Located

Located in the newly developed Bank of America Tower at Legacy Union in Uptown, the Charlotte office of Parker Poe is close to major businesses and some of the most desirable residential neighborhoods in North Carolina. Charlotte's central location in the Carolinas also provides easy access to Atlantic coast beaches and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Charlotte area appeals to families, singles, and young couples alike, all of whom enjoy the city's vibrant and expanding social and community activities. Residents can take advantage of the strong local colleges and universities, including UNC Charlotte, Queens University, Johnson C. Smith University, Davidson College, and Central Piedmont Community College.

Entertainment & Culture

Home to the Charlotte Hornets, Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Knights, and Charlotte Checkers, Charlotte is a haven for sports fans. Charlotte often hosts the PGA’s Wells Fargo Championship, which brings in golf professionals and enthusiasts from across the country. In addition, the area has a rich NASCAR tradition with races at the Charlotte Motor Speedway and events at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

The city also offers a strong and growing cultural dimension with the Charlotte Symphony, the Charlotte Ballet, the Mint Museums, the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, and the Levine Museum of the New South. In addition, Johnson & Wales University and its renowned culinary program have invigorated the area’s restaurant and gourmet offerings.

Community Involvement

Parker Poe attorneys are committed to the preservation, perseverance and well-being of their communities. Our attorneys have served as leaders on various boards and committees for groups that include the Arts & Science Council, United Way of the Central Carolinas, Catawba Lands Conservancy, Council for Children's Rights, and Foundation for the Carolinas. Our tradition of service was established long ago by partners like Francis Parker, who helped create the Legal Services of the Southern Piedmont (LSSP). LSSP provides legal assistance to low-income people in the greater Charlotte region.

Two of our partners, Catharine B. Arrowood (2011) and Mark R. Bernstein (2009), have received the prestigious H. Brent McKnight Renaissance Lawyer Award. The North Carolina Bar Association created the award to recognize attorneys who inspire community service and demonstrate intellectual achievement and excellence in the pursuit of their profession.

The tradition continues today with attorneys and staff in the Charlotte office actively involved in a broad range of organizations.
